Cheeto, Jorge, and Ortiz are the latest to hit H-Town by storm. Ortiz, the merchant sales manager, Jorge, the keyboardist and drummer, and the producer, lead singer and bass player Cheeto wrap up the group known as Papercut. Cheeto and Jorge were apart of another band before they started this unique project. Through their trials and tribulations they continue to feed off their success of believing in themselves and not giving up their dreams.
NashvilleRadio.tv wanted to promote Papercut when another band member, that I was interviewing, mentioned that they got a whiff of this new sound. Cheeto, one kicking bass player and singer, and Jorge, a terrific drummer and keyboard player, took a mixture of sounds that they believed in and created a new sound of their own. I personally have not heard a sound of this caliber. I would not know of what genre to put it in. It is a mixture of tones that are tight and that is refreshing to your ears. Either they have an advance knowledge of what music producers are looking for are these guys are geniuses.
Papercut came out of a funk band. They were having fun but started realizing if they were going to continue with their band careers they needed to have something more. I assumed that is how we got the band Papercut. Cheeto and Jorge were serious about their careers. They told me promotions of their band started off slow. They tried everything from sticking fliers in mailboxes, which they got in trouble for, to handing out promotional CDs. They have learned, from their past, that having tough skin and being real to themselves is the only way they are going to make it in the music business. "The only thing that might slow them down now is gravity" said Cheeto.
Cheeto writes the songs. His main focus on his band’s songs is to have a cool bass line. After he writes his melody then he goes after the lyrics while Jorge cheers him on. Their favorite places to play are the Meridian in Houston and the Hard Rock Cafe.
Cheeto influences are Market Miller, Jamerqua, Stanly Clark, Flee, The Strokes, and Muse. Jorge influences are Classical, Jazz, Soul, and Romance. They both agree they have purchased music CDs because the album looked cool.
They really try to talk with their fans on Myspace.com and know Myspace.com is just a way of communicating to the fans and not a way of being the next big star. They do get out there and pound the payments to get their music into the right people. Papercut has allot of talents to offer and has a sound that is catchy to the younger generation. If anyone has an extra CD car player and would like to donate it to these up and coming artists that would really help them out. It got stolen the week I did the interview.
